and, even though my machine was still working, surprise:

the cpu cooler was leaking! lucky i caught it before damage occurred. i highly recommend anyone with a liquid-cooled powermac G5 to just preemptively replace their CPU coolers, or just the entire CPU modules with air-cooled units.

now i can hope for many years of tiger, running near its best...
